We traveled to Abergavenny, in Monmouthshire, S. Wales this weekend. It’s only an hour from Swansea. The drive is beautiful: it’s all mountains and forest.
On the way, there was a castle trail: Usk, Ragland and Abergavenny. All in one day; a castle explorer’s dream come true.
We stayed at the Angel Hotel in Abergavenny. The castle is located just right behind it. Talk about a fairytale birthday! There was a midieval castle there too.
The Angel Hotel; a 5 star lodging hotel; and recently renovated 19th-century coaching inn with a Pub and bar along with traditional restaurants. The hotel also owns the The Walnut Tree, a one star Michelin restaurant.
The Walnut tree is also a lodge and is located just two miles east of Abergavenny. The Angel provides an all inclusive taxi transport to and from the hotel to the restaurant.
It was one of the best dinners I ever ate with the absolute best service ever, offering delicious dining and drinks in an informal setting.
There is a cozy setting with 20 tables seating up to 70 diners. They are open from Tuesday to Saturday, lunchtime and evening.
The food is an eclectic mix, where Chef Shaun creates country flavours and very savoury to the taste; pair that with sound cooking techniques; you will an incredible fresh country cuisine witch is the core of excellence in dining.
Shaun Hill is the chef. For his bio go to: http://www.greatbritishchefs.com/chefs/shaun-hill.
