Grazing Sheep

Treading aimlessly

upon the hill

the grass trampled by grace

broken branches

of withered trees

not resurrected,

bowing at his feet

awed by a lost wanderer

perhaps grazed by the rain

remains lost

and drowning.

Sheep graze on a lush hillside in central France, close to the Swiss border. The area’s mountains and crystalline lakes attract visitors year-round; trekkers tackle the Tour de Mont Blanc, a long-distance walk that winds around Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe.
